Evan Kohler, MD Adult Hip and Knee Reconstructive Surgeon

Dr. Kohler is a fellowship-trained adult hip and knee reconstructive surgeon. He earned his medical degree at Western Michigan University, completed his orthopedic residency at McLaren Flint and Hurley Medical Center, and finished fellowship training at Corewell Health. He is proud to return to Michigan, where he was raised, to serve the community that shaped him.

After high school, he attended the University of Notre Dame where he was a resident of Sorin College and double-majored in both Science Pre-Professional Studies and Greek and Roman Civilization. He then matriculated to the Western Michigan University Homer Stryker School of Medicine class of 2019. At WMed, he graduated in the top quartile of students, earned the Thomas R. Ryan family scholarship, won the Academic Achievement in Orthopaedics award, and was admitted to the Michigan Epsilon chapter of the Alpha Omega Alpha honor society. He matched into Orthopaedics and was very fortunate to train at McLaren Flint and Hurley Medical Center in the Michigan State University affiliated program. His outstanding training in Flint allowed him to match into an Adult Reconstruction Fellowship at Corewell (Beaumont) Health in Royal Oak, Michigan, which he completed in July of 2025. While at Beaumont, Dr. Kohler worked with many highly-respected local total joint surgeons and became proficient and certified in Mako-assisted robotic total joint surgery as well as revision total joint surgery.

Dr. Kohler is a member of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons, candidate-member of the American Association of Hip and Knee Surgeons, and member of the Michigan Orthopaedic Society. He is excited to work with and train residents at McLaren Oakland on their Total Joints rotation.

Outside of work, Dr. Kohler is a diehard Notre Dame Fighting Irish fan eagerly awaiting their next national championship. He enjoys struggling at the game of golf, playing softball in the West Bloomfield D-league, cruising and fishing on his pontoon boat, and completing endless house projects. He and his high school sweetheart Courtney live in Commerce Township along with their son Grant, Golden Retriever Lou, and two tabby cats Sully and Simon. Dr. Kohler is excited to return to the Oakland/Genesee County area for work, and finds himself extremely fortunate to have the opportunity to serve the community which so greatly impacted his upbringing.
